Across Annapolis County, Recreation Services is promoting ways to help decrease human impact on wilderness areas. This is made possible through the Annapolis County Back Country Watch Program. Back Country Watch is an environmental education program that encourages outdoor recreation users to become aware of their impact on the environment, and to actively Conserve, Protect, and Respect our natural areas (CPR).

This program will only be possible if county residents and tourists alike take the initiative to become better stewards for a healthy back country. Even though our focus will shift through the year, our message remains the same.

Keep a Watchful Eye on our Wilderness and Help Keep it Clean!
One person WILL make a difference.

How can YOU make a difference?

  • Please respect the land. If it's private, ask permission.
  • Please don't litter.
  • Practice "No Trace" outdoor activities.
  • Be aware of the Forest Fire Index
  • Always tell someone where you are going and when you will return.
  • Do not feed or approach animals.

If you hike, bike, cross country ski, wilderness camp, snowmobile or operate an ATV, visit one of our supporting business partners to pick up your own Back Country Watch bag and take on the role as steward for a healthy Annapolis County wilderness. Or contact Recreation Services at:
