Animal Control / Dog Registration

During the past several years, the public has come forward to volunteer their time and efforts in assisting the Companion Animal Protection Society of Annapolis County (CAPS) as well as making known their interest in adopting animals from the County Pound. All of your assistance has been much appreciated!

When offering to help, please keep the following in mind:

If you find abandoned pets / animals...
Call (902) 532-8407, (902) 825-2005 or (902) 532-2331

Phone the Animal Control Officer right away if you find an abandoned pet or animal. What can happen is that even if just provide cats with food, 2 female cats can easily turn into 12 cats within just 3 or 4 months.

Dog Registration commences April 1st of each year. If your dog is spayed or neutered the fee is $15.00 for registration, if not, there is a $30.00 fee.

Surrenders

Neither CAPS nor the County of Annapolis accept volunteer surrenders. Owners of pets must make their own arrangements for pets they no longer are able to keep.
  • If you keep a stray cat or dog for more than seven (7) days, most likely you will be considered the new owner.
  • If you try to help a friend by temporarily taking their pet, you would be considered the new owner.
